B dark是形容词,不能用放在介词in的后面（介词后只能加名词性的成分）
C darkness是名词不能用在这里做表语 因为我们不能说：房间是暗黑,只能说：房间是暗黑的 或 房间在暗黑里
D complete是形容词 不能用来修饰形容词dark,也不能做句子状语.
A completely是副词做状语 darkness名词做in的宾语,in darkness整个介宾短语做表语.

首先排除B、D，complete是动词，不能直接跟着was用。
C也是，completely是副词，一般不形容名词(darkness)

darkness名词，黑暗的意思。跟in连用，表示在黑暗中。
dark形容词，短语in the dark虽然很像in darkness，但意思是不了解。
比如：I’m as in the dark as you are.
我也跟你一样不了解情况。
