would rather+从句,是一个常用的虚拟语气句型 Would rather+从句,谓语一般用过去时来表示现在或将来.其意为“宁愿……,还是…… 好些”“一个人宁愿另一个人做某事”.引导从句的that常省略.
例如:We’d rather he paid us the money tomorrow.我们宁愿他明天付给我们那笔钱.
C 是有过去将来时意味,was/ were to do表示过去曾经计划要做的事,或者过去应当做的事,而且从现在的角度来看已经实现了.

如果你不能理解，不说别的，如果你用would come，就是I would rather you would come next Friday afternoon，英语中很少在同一句子中用2个相同的would 你可以这么理解would rather后接从句用过去式表示虚拟
