help用原形是因为前面有不定式 to
read 是因为help有 help sb （to）do的用法.to是可以省略的

help sb. to do sth 和 help sb. do sth 都可，也就是说动词不定式符号 to 可省略， 尤其是在美国英语中。

这个句子不是这么理解的，应该是help somebody do something，因而help students read english
