at the end of + 时间,事情发展,故事进行的顺序上的最后
eg:at the end of the day,they came back 在这天结束时,他们回来了.
in the end 最终.(后面接的是最终结果)
eg:Our team won the match in the end.我们队最终赢得比赛.

这题我做过，答案是since,how long在此是用来对动作所持续的时间长度提问，即询问的是时间段，“since+（过去的）具体时间”就是表达这个概念。
