family是一个集合名词是没有families这种形式的，作为整体或者个体来看的时候改变的是Be动词 比如：My family is large .我家是个大家庭。
My family are all early risers. 我的家人都起得很早。
你写的那句话是正确的 当表示个体成员时，be动词要变are。呵呵，有families的，你没见过而已...
