Throughout the evolution and development of English teaching methods in the 20th century, the discussion of teaching methods is the mainstream, from grammar-translation method and direct method to listening and speaking method; from the situational teaching approach and communicative teaching approach to the cognitive approach, from body-reflecting method and suggesting method to task-based approach. At first, there were many genres.Later there were multiple co-exist, which could be called "the method age." The experiments and the best teaching method that people look for frequently are based on a recognition. That is as long as we use right words to describe the laguage, then we find a best teaching method. Ordinary people can learn a foreign language well. But that is not the case. From the perspective of cognitive psychology, the process of students' learning and acquisition of English, on the one hand, is students put what they've learnt into their heart through finishing tasks.On the other hand, in the process of finishing tasks, students show what they've learnt, which is a obvious process. However, students' initiative forms, develops and improves gradually through the numerous internalization and obvious process. Professor Wang Zuoliang,a famous Chinese expert on English, once pointed lively in a forum during the 80's, “有时,有些方法对某些人在某些地方有效果.没有对任何人、任何领域都适用的方法.”This means teachers should use different teaching methods to different students and different materials . Teachers should choose different methods for different students. Teachers select a reasonable one from teaching methods and take the essence of various methods.According to the level of students and teaching tasks, they should determine their own teaching methods creatively .
