定语从句修饰fieldwork,如果用which来引导,那么fieldwork必定在后面定语从句中担任主语或宾语,但是定语从句中的主语是they,宾语也有是 the spoken dialects of a region,因此fieldwork只能放在定语从句作状语用during the field.
再者,they指代不明,要明确说出the linguists.
所以改成during which the linguists.

during 是一段时间的介词，估计这个答案意思是想表达在实地考察（fieldwork）的这段时间内吧，用which是肯定不对的，which作为关系词只能充当主语和宾语的成分，这里显然是一个状语的位置，个人认为用in which是完全可以的。
