Money doesn’t grow on trees,” my grandfather used to say.“I know that,” I’d reply,“It comes from my dad’s wallet.” It didn’t take long for me to find out that wasn’t true either. And as I grew older,I saw my dad’s wallet less and less.
Most kids get money from their parents. Some kids have to ask their parents for money when they want to buy something. Some kids get a regular allowance. And most kids spend that money on themselves. They buy things to make them happy:sweets,DVDs,game cards and clothes. Before they know it,the money is gone and they’re asking their parents for more.
Some parents teach their kids how to handle money responsibly from an early age.The kids get an allowance but they can’t spend all the money on themselves. They must save a little (in the bank),spend a little (on treats) and give a little (to the poor).
Learning the value of money and how to handle it responsibly is one of the most important lessons kids can learn.
