do前不加to,这里只指祈使句,所以直接以动词开头.
at the first time 指在第一次
如一个人打算分3次做一件事情,at the first time, he made a ..., but failed. at the second time, ..., failed again.
要加冠词the,first是序数词,应该要加的．

要特别强调顺序的话才用THE，没有顺序，一般就at first time就可以了
我觉得应该翻译成：wo promise to do best at first time..用不定式比较好
