When faculty are encouraged to engage in pedagogic inquiry,it is normally
because it is assumed that both teaching and student learning will be
improved as a consequence.In this chapter,we examine this assumption
and ask what is implied by it and whether it can be justified.Our discussion
examines the relationship between investigation and improved practice and
the evidence that practice has been improved by faculty undertaking pedagogic
inquiry.
