请教一个英语句子的语法结构问题.
Forty-two percent of people asked admitted they turned to the back of the book to read the end before finishing the story.（出自《五年高考,三年模拟》2014广东专用版 B版.第142页passage 10）
我的问题是：
1,这个句子的主语是Forty-two percent of people,“they turned to the back of the book to read the end before finishing the story.”应该是做 admitted的宾语,是宾语从句,然后就剩下 “asked admitted ”这个部分做谓语了,但是我又知道一个句子（不包含其中的从句）只能有一个谓语动词,那这个asked是怎么回事?难道这里是ask的什么是类似副词的用法?
