Another favorite fabric is satin. It has a beautiful luster that combines well with etallic Tintzl, metallic confetti shapes, and metallic threads. Suede cloth is another good choice for the base. You can use stretch fabrics if you stabilize them with a lightweight fusible interfacing.Follow the manufacturer's directions for fusing the interfacing. If you want to use tissue lame as a base fabric, stabilize it first with a fusible woven cotton interfacing. Before applying the interfacing, preshrink the lame by pressing with a low to medium temperature setting. It will shrink right before
your eyes. Test the temperature of the iron on a corner of the lame before pressing
the whole piece. Too much heat will melt the lame.
You can even use a sheer fabric for the base. A sheer base and top layer with Tintzl, silk flowers, or threads in between might make a beautiful shawl for a fancy dress. However, you'll need to choose a complementary thread for stitching the layers together, because on a sheer base fabric, the bobbin thread as well as the top thread will be visible. You'll also need to encase the raw edges of a sheer base fabric with French seams when it is used in a project.
