playing outside the barn 是现在分词短语作定语,修饰children,
因为children正在发出play的动作,故用现在分词形式.
a group of children playing outside the barn 一群在谷仓外玩耍的小孩.
句意:在干草中找来找去找了很长时间之后,他放弃了,然后向一群正在谷仓外玩耍的小孩寻找帮助.
填:feeling
feeling bored是现在分词短语作原因状语.因其逻辑主语 I 与feel 是主动关系,故用现在分词形式
句意:下午,由于感觉无聊,我决定去散步.

谓动用过去式跟现在分词作定语或状语又不相矛盾, 各是各.

那第一题用定语从句 …………children who were playing…… 行不行的啊？

行啊! 现在分词作定语就相当于进行时态的定语从句. 因此, children playing outside the barn=children who were playing outside the barn 又如: a boy sitting near the window= a boy who is/was sitting near the window.
