telephone operator需要加上定冠词特指,保留直接引语的普通陈述句：

亦可以改成非限制性定语从句（直接引语要变成间接引语）：It was the telephone operator,who asked sb.if he has a grandmother upstairs.
还可以改成强调句：It was the telephone operator who asked,"Do you have a grandmother upstairs?"
