因为一个主语不能同时用“,”连接两个动词.
The bell (indicating the end of the period) rang and interrupted out heated discussion.
如果是 and 在中间就可以,表示这两个动作是并列的关系.
但是这里是的逗号,用ing形式表示伴随发生的一个动作：
The bell (indicating the end of the period) rang,interrupting out heated discussion.
在这题就是看你知不知道这两种语法的具体用法,其中的差别也就是and 和 ,
