is放在主语their power之前是为了表示强调.
从语法上说,可以改写成:the greater their power is to/will harm us.
但最好不要改,既然这是别人的原话,就让它保持原句的样子.改后语气就变了.
句意:我们越是沉溺于不幸之中不可自拔,它给我们带来的伤害就越大.
