不选abandoned是因为它的意思：“If you abandon a place,thing,or person,you leave the place,thing,or person permanently or for a long time,especially when you should not do so”,即abandon常指本不该的,不好的抛弃行为如父母遗弃子女.而desert的意思是“If people or animals desert a place,they leave it and it becomes empty”,即离开某地使之荒废、空无一人.所以应该选empty
