This is a miving spectacle,for crowds of people stand on the shore watching the lanterns drifting away until they can be seen no more.
这句话里watch 和drift为什么要用现在ing的形式,还有就是其中的they是指什么?

watch 和drift两个动作是同时在进行的，而且前面是This is a miving spectacle,所以都要用现在进行时，
they=the lanterns
