这里where we live是定语从句,前面应该有它修饰的名词.
因此这句话不仅需要删掉in,where we live也有问题.

in which 也是用来修饰名词用的，而这句话显然不是修饰age，应该改成： There are not too many children of her age in the place where we live.

where的地位与in the place的地位是对等的，
where是副词性的
in the place where we live也是可以的。

where 是 连接副词，不需要带介词，就像：Where are you going ?一样。
