Although the term may not be very familiar to many managers,most organizations are probably using Group Technology,if only in a very fundamental way.As a philosophy,Group Technology is simply the realization that there is a basic similarity to many problems.If these problems can be organized in a systematic manner,a single solution may be found and applied,saving much time and effort.IN an industrial environment,it is the recognition that many similarities exist in the design and manufacture of individual components.If a technique were developed to bring together these components based upon their design or production attributes,the economies of scale normally associated with mass production would become available to the job shop or batch processor.
