LZ,我觉得应该选择D,原因是这样的：
由于这个是规范化考试,注重语法和语言逻辑结果的.这么说吧,and是表示并列,but是表示转折的,这个大家都理解,那么既然用了这种连词,前后的句型时态是要完全一致的.
这个句子原句前面用的时态是一般过去式,动词时“Spent”,那么后面也要是一般过去式,动词应该是“wrote”这样才能符合前后一致.
A.根据上面的分析,不应该用writing；
B.“that he was ”是不需要的成分,同事如果是这样的话,Wirting也是不对的,应该用Wrote；
C.Although后面没有主语,最严重的错误是逗号后面直接开始“he wrote...”这个是最不应该用的句法,因为这是另外一个句子,而中间没有连接词了,需要加"and".切忌---正规语法中,逗号后面如果没有连词,不可以接句子.
D.D其实看上去很正确,但是这种用法很少见,应该是he was a native of Jamaica who wrote...这样比较正确.
